Elizabeth Appelbaum
I am a mathematician. Mathematics ennobles my life, and I am proud that I helped others learn. I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, nickname Betsy, last name Berman. I moved here because my husband, Bradley, got a job as a physician with the Public Health Service. Because of our Jewish heritage, we both believed in tikkun olam. The Kansas City Jewish community has been a home for our family. The Heritage Center at The J was a source of exercise and fellowship. My children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren attended preschool and day camp at The J.
Jewish Family Services sponsors a Jewish group at the retirement center where I live. I play songs of Jewish interest at our meetings, at Congregation Beth Torah, and at the Day of Discovery, sponsored by the Jewish Federation. Leaving a legacy supports the community that enriched our lives; I trust that it will continue to enrich others.
